Love and Care To Ignite Hope - A Joyful Journey with a Visually Impaired Member

CCACC - ADHC Staff: Ms. Guozhen Gao

In March 2023, our center welcomed a special member in need of care,

Mr. Aiyi Liu, who is visually impaired. When everyone was unsure how to proceed, our head nurse assigned me to care for him and guide his exercises. Drawing upon my twelve years of experience working at CCACC-ADHC, I studied online to learn about caring for blind individuals. This marked the beginning of our three-day weekly training routine.

I first introduced him to the training environment and then guided him step by step, providing the support he needed to adapt to the new surroundings. Initially, he could only walk along the wall, but after training, he could navigate several rounds by himself. I also trained him to use the stairs, initially guiding him one step at a time. After some time, he was able to move up and down the stairs quickly, showing remarkable progress. Once he gained confidence and a sense of security, he requested to go for outdoor walks. Both the head nurse and I agreed, and I spent twenty minutes with him for each walk. He was very happy and grateful for this.

Mr. Aiyi Liu not only suffered the pain of blindness due to illness but also grieved the loss of his wife. I empathized deeply with him, having experienced the loss of loved ones myself. I comforted and encouraged him with love, assisted him in participating in center activities and performances, and helped him make new friends. He quickly adapted to the center's large family environment. Today, he is filled with joy, singing and laughing every day, and his heart is brimming with peace and happiness. He says CCACC-ADHC has given him a new life and is very thankful.

I take great care of him every day. On one occasion when I was attending to other elderly residents, I passed by his seat and saw him lying on the table. I immediately inquired about his condition. He told me he was feeling uncomfortable due to allergies. I noticed his pale complexion and felt his warm forehead, confirming it was not an allergy. I promptly reported it to the head nurse, who conducted an examination and discovered he had contracted COVID-19. He was immediately isolated. Thanks to our timely detection and response, no one else at the same table was infected.

I am deeply grateful to the center for allowing me to care for such a special person. I sincerely wish for the continued success of our center.
